Episode 3: Dependents’ Educational Benefits Podcast

Would you like the government to help you pay for your dependents education? Of course you would.

Hello. I’m Todd, where she, the founder and managing member of Vetus Legal LLC. We help veterans, their dependents, and survivors obtain from the VA the disability compensation benefits that they were promised, they earned, and they deserve. That’s all we do.

For veterans who are 100% permanently and totally disabled, or veterans should die from a service related disability, VA will pay a benefit called Dependents Educational Assistance, also known as DEA, to the child or surviving spouse in some circumstances. In fact, as of October 2024, they will pay for up to 45 months of education, training and approved programs at a rate of up to $1,536 for each full month. That can mean that they would pay out over $69,000 for the veterans’ dependents’ education.

So, what’s the trick? Well, it does pay lower rates depending on various factors, but more importantly, the veterans must be 100% permanent and totally disabled, which is different than being simply 100% disabled. It’s a recognition that the disability is unlikely to improve in the veteran’s lifetime, while other 100% disabled veterans may improve. Of course, the veteran’s survivors could also be eligible.

But why wait until you’re dead to help them get the benefits they could use to make their lives better? If you’re rated less than 100% for your military disabilities, please contact us to see if we can help you and your loved ones become eligible for these benefits.
